Whole Air Magazine was published from May 1978 through August 1986. While it covered many aspects of ultra light flying, the primary focus was on hang gliding.
It started out as Whole Air Catalog, a newsprint publication initially intended as a reference for ultra light aviation equipment, with some informative articles. This concept evolved with more informational articles being added, and the number of pages expanded. In early 1980 (issue #12) it made the leap to Whole Air Magazine with full color printing and heavier glossy paper.
The issue numbers indicate there were 51 total issues, but issue #46 is missing and may have been skipped. The known 50 issues are available here.
Filename format is [issue #]_[mmyy]_WholeAir.pdf.
While searching for a few missing issues, I became aware of Ken de Russy's Whole Air Collection. This is a complete collection of all 50 issues. Missing issues from this site were obtained from Ken's site (with permission). Their filenames end in "KdR", and the pages are watermarked "Ken de Russy Collection".
Ken de Russy's Whole Air Collection is just a small part of an Extensive Hang Gliding History Archive . It contains books, periodicals (like Whole Air, and others), Owner's manuals, Newsletters, plans and even music. It is well worth checking out.
