14th annual Moore Mountain Fly-in Report
The weather was so good it's unbelievable, it blew in and was soarable for 5 days in a row and still is today and looks good for the rest of the week too. Unreal. It started off great on Thursday with about 8 pilots and things built from there, by Sunday a total of just over 200 flights where taken, most of them soaring flights. 38 pilots entered the competition and there were lots of fun flyers.
A few highlights: Several other PG's set duration and gain records. Highest gain was 2400 feet in a PG and 3000 in a HG. The longest PG flight lasted 2 hrs 22 min and the longest HG flight was 3 hrs 8 min. The Roanoke crew scored in duration, congrats Tim and Kermon! One visiting PG pilot from Atlanta (originally from Czech Republic) impressed everybody with great toplanding (right in the middle of all the vehicles parked) and spotlanding skills( first place). He flew any time of day and he sure looked great. Personally I had my best altitude gain on a tandem at Moore, reaching 2000 feet over launch (at 6 :30 pm). That was fun, just hard to work the brakes, the pressure is pretty high. We would like to thank everybody for coming and bringing this fine weather. Tammy and I stayed real busy, we would have liked to spend more time talking to everybody that came but where occupied most of the time. Thanks for a great weekend guys!
